about

To Live and Shave in L.A.'s first convulsive year of live performance - following three years of near-continuous studio refinement - began at Churchill's in Little Haiti. Initially, Tom Smith and Rat Bastard played to no one. By early October, "30-minuten männercreme" had been released to wide acclaim, Ben Wolcott had joined the group, and TLASILA were eviscerating, well, just a handful more than had attended their early summer gigs. It mattered not - the toxins had been seeded.

These extraordinary recordings - savage howls of outrage punctuated by shrill clarions heralding a disintegrated future - portray a fully-formed genre that rejected every notion of itself.

"MIA 1994" offers eight obliterative prosecutions and a trio of backing tracks ("performance templates" in Smith's parlance) spread out over three discs.
