Mixed by Tom after-hours at Telemundo Studios, Hialeah, throughout the summer of 1993.

South Florida AM outlet WMRZ had gone through many identities and format permutations since its licensing in 1939. By 1990, it had shifted to “adult standards” programming. For Smith and the nascent TLASILA project, the soft bombast of its “790 Memories” iteration seemed far more radical than anything else happening at the time. He recorded hours of its programming between 1991-1992, and the compositions that form Early Miami were created from cassette tapes altered in real time using pressure deformation, pause-button edits, and other techniques honed in the groups Boat Of and Peach of Immortality.

(Throughout 1982, Boat Of’s live performances were anchored by
similarly manipulated loops of AM “easy listening” recordings.)

As for WMRZ-AM, its “beautiful music” format was junked in the latter part of 1993, around the time Smith and Rat Bastard put the final touches on To Live and Shave in L.A.’s debut album 30-minuten männercreme.

Heretofore these pieces were unreleased. They have been restored to their early 90's anti-luster and should twist more than a few threads of ganglia into seedy funfair balloon knots.
